ABOUT ME

Hello all! My name is Melody Mancinas and I have been working towards my AA degree in Elementary Teacher Education. I plan to transfer to earn a BA degree and get my teaching credential at the California State University of San Bernardino.

I am excited to show my future students that with commitment and hard work, they are capable of anything and can be anything that they want to be. I hope to create a safe place for the children in my classroom, where teamwork and empathy are rewarded just as enthusiastically as a good test score. Through love and understanding, I believe that I can help students achieve their highest potential.

CSTP 1 Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning
1 1 Using knowledge of students to engage them in learning
Example Meet the Student
It is crucial to know what works for your students and what will keep them engaged Students favor certain learning styles Visual Auditory Read Write and Kinaesthetic that help them grasp the most information when you are teaching In order to truly understand what works with each student I will use this handout I will incorporate their wants and needs in each lesson plan and I will make sure to use the learning styles that best correlate to the class s majority favored learning style For example if the majority worked well with repetition writing auditory I can have my students study for a spelling quiz by reading and writing each word five times for homework When a movement is repeated over time the brain creates a long term muscle memory for that task eventually allowing it to be performed with little to no conscious effort
CSTP 2 Creating Maintaining Effective Environments for Student Learning
Handdrawn Cartoony Parental Support
2 6 Employing classroom routines procedures norms and supports for positive behavior to ensure a climate in which all students can learn
Example Mental Health Check In
Mental health is a topic that should be a focus of every classroom I believe that feelings and emotions can be complicated to understand even at a young age How a student emotionally comes into the classroom can affect the way they perform in their studies The picture on the left is an example of a check in board that can be easily made and can be altered to help any grade level Students will be provided with post it notes They put their name on the back to maintain privacy and placed them on the board It s a quick way to tell how everyone was feeling and whom I may need to check in with It is a great way to build relationships with the kids and make sure that you are providing them with the necessary support they need
CSTP 3 Understanding Organizing Subjusct Matter For Student Learning
Boy Reading a Book Illustration
13 1 Demonstrating knowledge of the subject matter academic content standards and curriculum frameworks
Example Reading Comprehension
On the left you can see an example of a Kindergarten Reading Comprehension Activity which is an important piece of ELA California Common Core Students need to be able to read a passage and understand what they read This worksheet helps students understand what they need to pay attention to while reading and keeping their activities fun like coloring in the dog and ball while also rating the story This could be a lot for some students to understand at such a young age but of course their worksheets will correspond with their sight words It is a great way for students to engage in challenging experiences as this is how they will grow

CSTP 6 Developing As a Professional
6 4 Working with families to support student learning
Example Data Binder Take home folder
Substantial evidence shows that family involvement benefits students including academic achievement There are advantages for children when their families become involved like increased motivation for learning improved behavior and a more positive attitude towards homework and school in general By having more contact with students families teachers learn more about students needs and home environment which is information they can apply to better meet their needs Student data binders are great for family teacher interaction as well With a well maintained student data binder you are able to show your student s family how they have improved over time and gives endless possibilities to contact the teacher with any questions or concerns The data binder will be a primary resource with family meetings contact information and to make sure that every need of the students are met
